Nominations for Student Council and School Rep positions are open from the 16th September until your first class rep meeting in October – and we want people to run for the position! Read this to find about more about the positions available, why you should run for them, and how!

What is Student Council?

Student Council is the boss of the Union – this is a group of 101 students that decide the policies of the SU, the work officers should be doing, and also holds all of the SU officers to account. This is where you can make a huge difference in what you want students to focus on and change in our University. We debate issues and submit motions and learn a lot about the SU along the way.

What’s In it for me?

Student Council meetings take place in the evening times throughout the year – there is a Student Council Chairperson, and each meeting lasts a few hours.

We will provide you with free training and support throughout the year. You also gain really important personal skills, like public speaking, debating, and policy writing. It’s really fun to really engage with the work of the Union, and it’s a brilliant way to become more involved. It’s a position of responsibility as you are representing many students in that room; we want you to take the role seriously, and that’s why we fully support you along the way.

Ok, this sounds good to me! What next?

Great to hear! First fill out this nomination form on our website here.

You will be elected by the class reps in your area at a class rep meeting.

Hopefully you will get elected, and the first student council meeting will be taking place on the 23rd October, with training running on the 21st of October.

What are School Reps?

School reps are part of student council. We have 30 school rep positions across TU Dublin, and we still have some vacancies! School reps represent all of the programmes in the school – you can be the link with class reps and student council and can work to resolve issues in your school. You also are trained and work closely with the officers in the SU throughout the year!
