Freshers’ Fortnight – Laoise

Originally from Galway in Ireland, 22-year old LAOISE writes dreamy, ambitious and frank pop songs about relationships and heartbreak, often with more introspective lyrics, juxtaposed with upbeat electro and synth production. Having performed a string of gigs and festivals over the summer – including Primavera Sound, Longitude, Lollapalooza Berlin and more – LAOISE is now bringing her 80s-inspired live show to the THE FRESHERS BALL

Described by NPR’s World Cafe as ‘changing the sound of Ireland’, LAOISE records, produces and releases her music completely independently and totally commands her own brand of bold, glittering, gutsy electro-pop – paving the way for Irish-born pop music. Taking her cues from the quirky production of acts like Julia Michaels, King Princess and Robyn, LAOISE thrives on being able to experiment with her music and the characters, concepts and emotions she’s able to portray with each release. Such determination proved successful earlier this year, where LAOISE was nominated for an RTÉ Choice Music Prize for her pop anthem ‘Again’, seeing further praise from the likes of The 405, The Line of Best Fit, Nialler9, and Gay Times to name a few.

From gaining over 4 million streams on Spotify to building an intimate connection with fans through her honest lyrics and sincere social media presence, 2019 has seen LAOISE go from strength to strength. With her most recent release, the ‘Mad’ EP, LAOISE presents four songs created with real intent which infuses her live set with a strong female presence and striking energy.
