Name: Fionn Collins
Position: Deputy President for City Campus
Why did you decide to run for your position?
I decided to run for the position because I was the VP for Welfare on the City Campus last year during COVID and I felt like my year in the Students’ Union wasn’t done. I had more to give of myself for the students and I also wanted to become more of a leader. The role of Deputy President really appealed to me as I felt it would allow me to grow as a leader and develop myself and my skills further. I had a lot more of myself to offer and was delighted that I re-ran as I now feel my time in the SU is complete.
What is your favourite memory during your time?
My favourite memory would be this year during SHAG week. I helped the Welfare team run events and also do pop ups on campuses to promote sexual health and have fun during college!
What is your favourite aspect of your role?
I like how this year I could make the role my own. The role is very broad and you can make it your own and also use the role to support your VPs. I also enjoyed working locally on campus and issues surrounding the City Campuses. You can also complete work that officers in previous years didn’t get to finish.
What do you wish you had known before you started?
That the role is very tiring but fun! Make sure to ask for help and delegate work to everyone so you don’t burn out!
What advice would you have for potential candidates?
Put your name down and give it a shot! You’ll never know unless you try 🙂
